Families and the community are invited to participate in free drop-in activities to expand the dialogues of the re:present L.A. exhibition.  Created for all ages, these activities were designed to gain a deeper understanding of how we perceive Los Angeles.

Featured activity is led by exhibiting artist Albert Valdez and special guests The Mobile Mural Lab, sponsored by Blick Art Materials, who facilitate an interactive art experience in connection with the dialogues that emerge from re:present L.A.  The Mobile Mural Lab was founded by Roberto del Hoyo and David Rusell, who developed a mobile art studio serving as a space for mural education and production in the Los Angeles area.

Additional activities throughout Family Art Day include a Scavenger Hunt for families to take a closer look at the exhibition.  The Clothesline Project is an opportunity to create and share personal representations of Los Angeles.  Re-Map L.A., a map making project invites participants to design imaginative maps of Los Angeles inspired by the artwork of Map Conception, Corrie Siegel and Kathi Flood. Spotlight Artist Talk features exhibiting artist Corrie Siegel, who will be giving a talk at 3 p.m. in the Community Focus Gallery, 3rd Floor, VPAM.  Siegel is a Los Angeles artist, educator, Co-Director and Founder of Actual Size Los Angeles gallery.  A live art-making demonstration will be performed by exhibiting pottery artist Thomas Dang from 12 to 2 p.m.

With all of the engaging activities and expansive exhibition, Family Art Day also features a retrospective photo presentation of Facebook-shared pictures.  The media presentation is the collective reflections of visitors’ participation throughout the exhibition.  Prior to Family Art Day, families and participants were encouraged to share pictures of Los Angeles on the page
