The saying, “Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are” can be said for a city, “Drive through my streets and I’ll tell you how we live.”
A large body of my work has documented the environment of Los Angeles, my home since 1975. As a child, I imagined each of us having a wide ribbon that spooled out of our backs and covered the earth. But those ribbons never prevented us from being apart from each other. The streets that we see every day can keep us connected – or keep us apart.
sesuJ sevaS also reminds me of the current political campaign. I know that when Church and State hold hands, we get witch-hunts and wars. After 2000 years, the teachings have been turned backward – out of reach – floating away from us.
